Because there are so many shows available here and I like all of the different eras a whole lot, I had such a hard deciding what to listen to on any given day. So I got in the habit of just picking a show on "This Day in History." I have happened across a lot of cool shows this way.

Anyway, to the point. I was listening to http://www.archive.org/details/gd89-12-08.sbd.ladner.15641.sbeok.hnf as it is a show from today in 1989. I was in the middle of writing up my status report for the week and not really listening that closely to the music, just have my headphones on to zone other people out and jam right.

The Other One starts playing and sounds pretty tight, kinda trippy, kinda cool. And then I nearly piss my pants. Bob Weir has successfully scared the jeebus out of me. WTF is this CRAZY voice effect? He sounds like a demon in the first verse and a chipmunk in the second.

What is even crazier is that I like it so much just because it came at me out of nowhere that I gotta listen to it again.

I was at that show and the whole run and felt a trip down memory lane was in order so I threw this one in the other night. Don't know how I felt about the vocal effects that healy sprung on Bob. I guess it depends what kind of other one Bobby was playing at the time. There was the whipering of lyrics that he had in 87 or so which I thought was bizarre. I would check out night 3 to hear some good stuff.

Dan Healy was fired for that stuff I guess he was an amateur guitarist who had personal issues with Bobby and started messing with his voice or taking his guitar out of the mix Phil and Jerry eventually listened back to some of it and hired someone new Funny though!

Yeah, I really wasn't kidding when I said I had to listen to it again.

Funny to me that people hate on the digital effects and whatnot. Jerry was and Phil is an audio nerd, and I mean nothing disparaging about that at all. They were always about experimenting with how to make crazy sounds that sounded cool. To each his/her own, I like it all.

I listened to Mississippi Half Step and was really confused, then I realized it was about that Shakedown Street. I really did laugh out loud, it was so bizarre and creepy. Thanks for the post High Flow. LOL

Actually, I kept listening to this show after that Shakedown and it is pretty enjoyable, thanks for the tip.

I just stumbled on to that. Played it for the wife. She was creeped-out too. So I posted my findings. Sorry for the confusion. Glad you found it...

Cost healy his job. Bobby was pissed when he did this. I thought it was kinda cool though.
